Meet Brad MacMillan – The Heart Behind the Lens

Hi! I’m Brad MacMillan, the owner and operator of Brad in YYC Visual Media. It’s great to meet you!

A Small-Town Approach to Big Moments

Born in BC and raised in a small Alberta town, I grew up surrounded by people who valued hard work, kindness, and looking out for one another. In a place where everyone knew each other, I learned quickly that respect isn’t just given—it’s earned through how you treat people every day. Whether it was lending a hand to a neighbor, stopping for a chat at the local coffee shop, or just being someone others could count on, that small-town way of life shaped who I am. No matter where I go, I carry that mindset with me. It’s not about where you’re from; it’s about how you show up for others.

A Lifelong Passion for Photography

Photography found me in around the age of 14, the first time I picked up my mom’s camera. From that moment on, I was hooked. It regularly brought a camera with me to many places I went, documenting everything from school trips to Ontario to visits with my parents on the East Coast. When I started fighting wildland fires from a helicopter, my camera was right there with me, capturing the kind of moments most people never get to see firsthand. What started as a hobby started turning into something more—a way of freezing time, preserving emotions, and telling stories without words.

Discovering Videography

In the recently, I’ve stepped into the world of videography, and it has completely changed the way I see storytelling. While photography captures a single moment, video brings those moments to life—letting you hear the laughter, feel the emotion, and relive the energy of the day. I’ve loved exploring how movement, music, and timing come together to create something that goes beyond just visuals. I used to make slideshows to music, but this has progressed into making the day into full videos. Whether it’s a wedding, an event, or a creative project, videography has given me a new way to document experiences in a way that feels real and immersive. It’s been an exciting challenge, and I can’t wait to keep growing in this space.

Beyond the Camera

Outside of photography and videography, I’m always on the move. If I’m not behind the camera, you’ll probably find me hiking in the mountains, diving into a cold lake, or tackling something new just to push myself. I’ve never been one to sit still for too long, which is probably why I’ve worked in so many different fields—construction, firefighting, tow truck driving, and plenty more. I love hard work, long days, and the kind of challenges that push me to my limits. Some people look for the easy way—I look for the worthwhile way.

Let’s Capture Your Story

I believe in keeping things simple. Life doesn’t have to be complicated to be meaningful. The best moments are often the unplanned ones, the ones that sneak up on you when you least expect them. That’s what I aim to capture—real life, as it happens, in all its messy, beautiful authenticity.
